PEMEX Road Testing Documents Fuel Savings of ~24% on Heavy-Duty Vehicles

Location: Mexico Subject: Field evaluation of the SUPERTECH® Combustion Optimizer on high-mileage heavy-duty vehicles.

How did PEMEX (Mexico) evaluate SuperTech®?

To assess the impact of upstream fuel optimization on fuel consumption and exhaust behavior, PEMEX Refinación (Mexico) conducted a controlled real-world road test of the SuperTech® device on heavy-duty commercial vehicles operating under normal service conditions.

The evaluation was carried out in February 2007 by PEMEX personnel as part of an operational fuel-consumption assessment, with before-and-after comparisons performed on the same vehicles and route.

Evaluation Scope & Method

The PEMEX evaluation included:

  • Two heavy-duty DINA commercial vehicles (model years 1990 and 1997)

  • Vehicles operating at high mileage (170,000–409,000 km at test start)

  • A defined road route between Salamanca and Guanajuato, including mixed terrain and gradients

  • Baseline run without SuperTech®, followed by a second run with SuperTech® installed

  • Measurement of fuel consumption using a Touriel road test method

  • Qualitative observation of vehicle behavior and exhaust smoke

No engine modifications, tuning, or changes to vehicle systems were made during the evaluation.

What were the observed results following installation?

Based on PEMEX’s documented test results, the evaluation recorded:

  • Fuel-consumption reduction of approximately 24.14% during the test route when SuperTech® was installed

  • Improved vehicle drivability, including smoother operation on inclines and more stable speed changes

  • Visible reduction in black exhaust smoke, as observed during operation

  • Immediate performance improvement compared to baseline operation without the device

The results were documented in an official communication issued by PEMEX Refinación – Salamanca and signed by a PEMEX engineering supervisor.

What is the key takeaway for engineers and fleet operators?

The PEMEX evaluation demonstrates that real-world road testing on high-mileage, heavy-duty vehicles can document measurable reductions in fuel consumption and observable improvements in exhaust behavior associated with upstream, in-tank fuel-conditioning technologies.

This reference documents observed outcomes under specific operational conditions and does not constitute a regulatory certification or guarantee of results. Performance may vary depending on vehicle condition, load, route profile, fuel quality, and duty cycle.
